According to reports, the mother-in-law of Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has been kidnapped in Sao Paulo, Brazil with the criminals asking for $36.5 million in ransom.
News sources claim that the mother of Fabiana Flosi, Ecclestone’s wife, was abducted from her home in Sao Paulo near Interlagos earlier in the week. While local police have yet to comment on the reported kidnapping, the claimed ransom is the largest ever demanded in Brazil.
Veja reports that the kidnappers want the money to be paid in pounds sterling and divided into four bags of cash.
Bernie Ecclestone married Fabiana Flosi in 2012 after meeting her at the 2009 Brazilian Grand Prix. Ecclestone’s estimated worth sits at $3.1 billion.
This news is just the latest in a string of incidents raising questions about the country’s suitability for hosting next month’s Olympic Games.
