There is a new iteration of the BMW 5-Series just around the corner, but the automaker has not finished rolling out special editions of the current one.
Dubbed 528i M Performance Edition, the Bimmer is only available on the Malaysian market, where production is limited to 100 units. Each one costs RM363,800, or $91,365 at today’s exchange rates, meaning that it’s RM15,000 ($3,765) cheaper over the regular 528i, and has been retrofitted with the M Performance Kit “to elevate design and aerodynamic standards”, as the company explains.
“In the centenary year of the BMW Group, we at BMW Group Malaysia have not only continuously grown our strong portfolio of premium vehicles here in the country, but we are also constantly looking at opportunities to ensure that more of our Malaysian customers are able to enjoy the premium ownership experience of a BMW vehicle“, said the CEO and Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, Han Sang Yun.
Additions over the standard model include the gloss black kidney grille, carbon fiber front splitter, new side skirts, bootlid spoiler made from the same lightweight material and M Performance badging, while the equipment list, which has yet to be detailed, is expected to remain the same. The car already features standard items such as the LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, four-zone climate control, Harman Kardon premium sound system, sunroof and head-up display, among others.
Power comes from a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-banger, rated at 240 HP and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, channeled to all four corners through an 8-speed automatic transmission, made by ZF. Going from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 6.2 seconds and top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).
