Following his departure from Top Gear, Evans praised his former colleagues and the production team for their professionalism.
Sharing his thoughts in a column in the Daily Mail, Chris Evans humbly said he really tried his best to make a good show out of the new and revamped Top Gear, but somethings are just “not meant to be”.
He described himself as “a square peg in a round hole”, a position “which is fine if you keep on hammering it in, but the moment you leave it to do its own thing, the universe will quite rightly pop it back out again”. Moreover, he said he loved being part of the adventure that is Top Gear, and doesn’t have a single regret. Who would, right?
Considering everything that’s happened, including Evans’ constant online battering, the radio host doesn’t seem to have hard feelings on the matter. Contrary to rumors saying that him and Matt LeBlanc didn’t get along on the set, with the former star of Friends issuing an ultimatum to the BBC that he’ll leave the show unless Evans does, the Brit declared himself thrilled to have worked with “Joey”, taking a few lines to describe LeBlanc’s talent and dedication.
“For me, he is the man. He is the captain Top Gear truly needs going forward, the perfect torso for the rest of TG’s limbs. Not only does he eat, sleep, breathe and dream engines, propshafts and trail-braking, but the overwhelming quality that struck me about him is that he’s just such a pro. The whole time I worked with him, he never once looked at the clock, was never late on set, knew his lines inside out and back to front and, most importantly on such an intense production, he always had time for everyone, especially the crew. The simple truth is he and Top Gear were made for each other. From the moment he made his first real driving film, in the bonkers Aerial Nomad in Morocco, it was love at first sight.”
