While Chris Evans resigned as host from the motoring show Top Gear, Chris Harris, his co-worker, landed another job for BBC.
But this time, in the U.S., where the journalist will bring his hit Youtube series to the silver screens. Don’t worry, though, as Harris won’t abandon his (remaining) colleagues at Top Gear – he’ll even continue his new web series through Top Gear’s website.
According to The Guardian, Adam Waddell, Top Gear’s global brand director said that Harris’ popularity on the internet can attract new viewers:
“Chris Harris has proved extremely popular with viewers of Top Gear and Extra Gear. He brings with him a fan base of millions from YouTube and we’re delighted to be working with him to create this incredible new content.”
The brand new auto series will be called (naturally) Chris Harris on Cars, and will start airing on Monday, July 11 at 9/8c on BBC America. The show will offer Top Gear fans more time with the motoring journo, as he will explore the technical complexities and get behind the wheel of the “newest, fastest and coolest cars”, as Harris commented:
“If wanton tire destruction, powerslides and continuous drooling over the world’s fastest and most expensive road racers like the Porsche 911 GT3RS or the Aston Martin GT12 is your thing— you could do considerably worse than watch me put them through their respective paces on track and road on BBC America.”
The seven-episode series will be distributed by BBC Worldwide.
