According to multiple reports and information from prospective owners, the recently-revealed drop-top Ferrari LaFerrari won’t be dubbed the ‘Spider’ and instead adopt the ‘Aperta’ nameplate.

In recent years, the Aperta name has adorned the convertible versions of the 599 GTO, the 458 Speciale and a one-off variant of the SA Aperta coined the GT Aperta. Unlike ‘run-of-the-mill’ Ferrari convertibles, all of these models featured extremely limited production numbers, just like the open-air LaFerrari will, giving credence to word about it hitting the market as the LaFerrari Aperta.

Official confirmation is unlikely to come until September’s Paris Motor Show 2016 when official specifications about the car should also be announced.

According to supercar collector Alejandro Salomon, approximately 150 LaFerrari Apertas will be produced, an increase over the sub-100 production run initially planned. Whatever the case may be, LaFerrari Aperta models are expected to fetch premiums much higher than even the coupe as soon as deliveries commence next year.

Obviously distinguishing the LaFerrari Aperta from the hardtop is its lack of fixed roof. Unlike other convertible models from the Italian automaker however, the LaFerrari will only feature either a removable hard-top of a soft-top, depending on specification.
