Last sold in the US more than 30 years ago and with 2016 marking its 50th anniversary, the 124 Spider is back and the first units of the all-new model have touched soil.
Priced from $24,995 for the manual gearbox and $26,345 for the automatic, plus a $995 destination fee, the Fiat 124 Spider Classica is billed as “the most affordable turbo-powered convertible in America”.
It benefits from standard 16-inch alloy wheels, body-color header, side sills and door handles, black roll bar finish, dual exhaust tips, halogen headlights, LED taillights, black cloth seats and soft touch materials with silver accents.
With larger 17-inch alloy wheels, silver-painted A-pillar header and roll bar cover and dual-tip chrome exhaust, the Lusso costs $27,495, plus $995 destination, and brings Piano Black accents, black or saddle leatherette wrapped cluster brow and heated premium leather seats.
For the 124 Spider Abarth, prospective buyers will have to pay at least $28,195 without destination charge. For the money, it adds front and rear Bilstein sport suspension, mechanical limited-slip dif, front strut tower bar, Brembo brakes, some unique visual tweaks on the exterior and Recaro seats.
Celebrating the return of the Fiat 124 Spider nameplate to the US is a special edition dubbed Prima Edizione Lusso, which starts from $35,000, plus destination, and is available in exclusive Azzurro Italia paint, with premium leather seats in Saddle and an individually numbered commemorative badge. Aside from the limited edition roadster, customers will also get a poster with the original design illustration, a blue leather bag and a journal with a pen.
All versions of the drop-top come with a 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo four-banger, which produces 160 HP and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque on the Classica and Lusso and 164 HP and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) on the Abarth, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic.
