With the AM-RB 001, Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies are seemingly on the cusp of creating the next-generation of high performance cars, just like the McLaren F1 did some 20 years ago.
While deliveries are still the better part of two years away, initial reports and details about the car reveal that it won’t just beat all the current competition, but set the standard for the next decade. Now we have an even better idea of just how fast the 001 will be.
Evo Magazine had the exclusive opportunity to check out the very first clay model of the car before its recent world debut in concept guise. In the video, Jethro Bovingdon says that in track-only guise, the 001 will be faster than a current Formula One car, trouncing previous revelations that it’ll match an LMP1 car for speed.
If this phenomenal goal of Adrian Newey is reached, we could see the race-spec AM-RB 001 lapping the Spa Francorchamps circuit some 40 seconds (!) faster than the Koenigsegg One:1, the current road-legal record holder.
While many technical elements of the car remains secret, we know it’ll feature a naturally-aspirated mid-mounted V12 engine delivering around 1000 hp. When combined with the world’s finest carbon fiber and a 1,000 kg (2,205 pounds) kerb weight, it’s not surprising why Formula One’s most successful designer is so confident in his creation.
