Compact SUVs are much more popular than luxury ones, so Kelly Blue Book got a Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Honda CR-V and put them to the test.
Unfortunately there were still plenty of models that didn’t make the cut, like the Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain, Jeep Cherokee, and Nissan Rogue, and you can make a case for the Toyota RAV4 deserving a spot here more than the smaller Outlander Sport.
Still, the Outlander Sport was by far the most affordable car in this test. As for the other five, their prices didn’t differ as much as one might expect.
In terms of practicality, the Honda CR-V performed best, while the Mazda CX-5 and the Ford Escape were the sportiest to drive – with the former more so than the latter.
The KBB team examined the cars’ various attributes, from highway driving to city driving, sporty driving, cabin quality, infotainment systems, comfort, utility, fuel economy and of course resale value, which is often under-looked during car reviews.
