Deliveries of the new Lexus LC Coupe are a year away from commencing but that hasn’t stopped the company from commencing development and testing of the race-going variant.

Twitter user @Lexusracing_36 recently snapped the lightly-disguised prototype undergoing testing in Japan. While the intricacies of its design aren’t visible from this blurry picture, we can definitely see hints of the almighty LFA in its design as well as similarities to 2015’s LF-LC GT Vision Gran Turismo Concept.

Of course, the car will most closely resemble the road-going LC in the hope of promoting what Lexus calls its most dynamic model since the LFA. Compared to the road car, some of the apparent design changes include the fitment of a large rear wing, a prominent front splitter, extended side skirts, a relocated petrol cap and a set of silver forged racing wheels, inevitably wrapped in slick tires.

When development of the model is finished, it is expected to race in Japan’s leading GT500 class of the Super GT championship. Lexus currently runs a modified RC F in this series and is likely to replace it with the LC, rather than running both in the series.
