As part of McLaren’s Track 22 business plan announced at March’s Geneva Motor Show, it has emerged that the brand could make ‘LT’ a dedicated track-focused sub-brand.

The famed LT (short for Longtail) name was reintroduced by the McLaren 675LT, drawing on inspiration from the original F1 GTR Longtail. The firm’s equivalent of the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the 675LT has proven a massive hit, being dubbed a baby-P1 and quickly selling out in both Coupe and Spider guises.

Soon after the McLaren 570S was released last year, rumors surfaced suggesting that it too could receive an ‘LT’ variant. While such a model has yet to come to fruition, it seems inevitable that it will eventually if LT does indeed becoming a performance-oriented sub-brand.

No timeline for the formation of such a division has been announced but it will be just one of numerous developments as part of the company’s 2022 business plan.

In the coming six years, no less than 15 new McLaren models will be released, including an all-electric hypercar for the range-topping Ultimate Series. The Sports Series and Super Series will also be expanded, the latter of which will welcome the successor to the 650S sometime next year.
