Launched in 2010, the second-gen CLS is on its way out, with Mercedes offering special Final Edition models for both the four-door coupe and the Shooting Brake.
The W218 CLS carried on the original’s unique legacy in the segment, offering customers stylish alternatives to conventional four-door sedans and estates. Sadly, the Shooting Brake probably won’t get a successor due to the lack of interest in China and the US, the world’s two biggest markets.
Now, the car maker that invented the four-door-coupe niche, is sending them off packed to the gills with equipment.
Visually, in order to emphasize the vehicles’ luxurious, yet sporty character, Mercedes tailored both models in its AMG Line, which includes a diamond radiator grille in chrome, AMG front apron with striking, sporty air intakes, diamond lattice and chrome trim elements, AMG side sill panels and also AMG rear apron with simulated air outlets and chrome trim strip. Completing the look is a bumper-integrated two-pipe exhaust system with angular tailpipe trim elements, as well as a selection of rims, ranging from the 19-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels, to the 18-inch AMG five-spoke light-alloys.
The cabin features the same sporty fashion as the exteriors, although a selection of fine materials were used to enhance the overall atmosphere. The driver and front passenger are accommodated on heated multi-contour seats, finished in black leather accentuated with light-colored topstitching, while a sports steering wheel with flattened bottom section – exclusive to the Final Edition – is used for precise control. Moreover, a high-quality badge with “Final Edition” lettering on the wing as well as appropriate lettering on the front floor mats was implemented, to remind future owners of the CLS’ exclusivity.
The Final Edition will be available with DIRECT CONTROL sports suspension as well as MULTIBEAM LED headlamps, and Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus. All engine variants and can be ordered, as well as the complete range of paint finishes of the CLS family, with the Final Edition Package priced at €8,211 ($9,131), so we’re looking at a $76,956 starting price.
