Current Formula 1 championship leader and Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has agreed to stay with the German outfit for two more seasons.
With his contract due to expire at the end of the year, Rosberg chose to carry on as Lewis Hamilton’s teammate until at least 2018, basically confirming that Mercedes, along with Ferrari and Red Bull, have managed to retain their current line-up of drivers for the following year.
Since joining the team ahead of the 2010 season, Rosberg has contested over 100 races for the Silver Arrows, claiming 19 wins and 45 podium finishes. Despite his success, he’s lost out to his teammate on the title for the past two years.
Going into this year’s Hungarian Grand Prix, Rosberg holds a slim one point lead over Hamilton, with 10 more races still left on the calendar. This means the title is still up for grabs, which is good from a viewer excitement perspective.
Rosberg announced his new deal by tweeting a picture of his contract earlier today, held by himself and team boss Toto Wolff.
