Peugeot, Citroen And DS Announce First Real-World Fuel Economy Results

The PSA Group fulfilled its commitment to publish the results of real-world fuel consumption tests for 30 core models.

This particular test procedure was established by two non-government organizations, Transport & Environment (T&E) and France Nature Environment (FNE) and has been audited by Bureau Veritas to secure the reliability of the final figures.

Based on the EU’s planned Real Driving Emissions (RDE) project, fuel consumption was measured using a portable emissions measurement system (PEMS) installed on the vehicle. The test took place on public roads open to traffic, with the route including 25km urban, 39km rural and 31km motorway driving under real-life driving conditions.

This means that the cars were loaded with a passenger and luggage while the air-conditioning system was enabled during the whole procedure. The first results include 14 Peugeot models, 11 Citroens and three cars from the DS range.

The French company also announced that, by the end of 2016, a fuel economy simulator will be launched on all three of their brands’ websites to help customers predict their vehicle’s consumption based on their driving style and conditions, along with an eco-driving application to help them reduce their needs in fuel.

“The PSA Group has today published real-world consumption data for 30 Peugeot, Citroën and DS models, in line with the commitment to transparency made in October 2015”, said Gilles Le Borgne, Executive Vice President of PSA’s R&D. “As part of its drive to continuously provide customers with more information, the Group will publish figures for another 20 models by the end of the year and introduce a simulator allowing customers to reduce their fuel consumption depending on driving conditions, thereby lowering their CO2 emissions.”

“In 2017, the PSA Group will move to the next level by extending measurements to pollutant emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in customer driving conditions”, he concluded.
