An Italian police crew went through some tough times after their cruiser, a BMW i3, caught fire on a highway.
This is one of the four BMW i3s that were delivered to the Italian police in Rome, but the details regarding to what exactly made it burn to a crisp remain unknown, as Electrek reported.
We cannot tell you, at the time, if the vehicle in question is the all-electric variant or the one equipped with an internal combustion acting as a range extender, but if it’s the latter, then it would have been fitted exactly where the officers are using the fire extinguisher in the video.
BMW‘s intensive i3 marketing helped the company to also win a contract with the Los Angeles Police Department to supply 100 units of the green hatch to the city. The decision was taken after LAPD tested the i3 against the more expensive and powerful Tesla Model S P85D. It will be used as transportation vehicles in non-emergency cases. BMW also supplied a small batch of i3s in Bavaria, where they are used on police duties.
