Just as the Pokemon Go frenzy spreads to more users each day, a Tesla Model X owner has decided to combine the Autopilot feature with a hunt for the little creatures.
Proud of his accomplishment and wanting others to see the benefits of using Tesla’s semi-autonomous system with the most popular smartphone/tablet app of the moment, the young man filmed himself on the I-95, near Washington D.C., with his hands off the steering wheel while paying attention to his phone’s display.
“As long as there’s a good amount of surroundings and clear lane markers, as you can see here, it will never ask you to kind of, remind you to put your hands back on the steering wheel. So, in essence, Autopilot works pretty much 100 percent fully autonomous in bumper to bumper traffic, minus, of course, lane changes and things like that, and again, it’s fantastic for catching Pokemon on the Go“, the driver explained in the short video.
His action, which is contradictory with the brand’s terms and conditions for using the Autopilot system, comes just a couple of months after a motorist lost his life under similar circumstances. Rather than chasing virtual cartoons on his smartphone, the man was reportedly watching a Harry Potter movie when his Tesla Model S hit an 18-wheeler truck.
