2017 BMW M5 Sheds More Camo As Reveal Time Approaches

Prototypes of the next BMW M5 were spotted again by our spies, giving us the best look yet at the Bavarian super sedan.

BMW is getting ready for the big reveal of the whole 5-Series range which is expected to be based upon the same modular platform that spawned the latest 7-Series.

What this means for the 5-Series in general is an around 100kg (220 pounds) reduction in weight, thanks to the mixed use of lightweight materials in its construction, including carbon fiber. The flagship of the range will continue using the twin-turbo V8 petrol engine as we have reported before, albeit in a more powerful state closer to 600hp.

This will also be the first time BMW to offer an M5 with AWD as an option in order to keep their customers happier in countries where the sun isn’t always shining. At least hardcore fans will still get to choose the RWD model, unlike Mercedes which is known to develop the next E63 AMG with AWD only.

The new chassis will also bring the center of gravity lower while BMW will also debut a range of active systems to help the new M5 turn harder and faster than ever. An active aero agenda is also under consideration.

There is even a rumor that BMW is considering even bringing back the wagon bodystyle for the M5 but this one is to be taken with a pinch of salt.
