Ever since VW debuted the Sport Coupe Concept GTE in Geneva last year, it was clear that it was conceived to preview the car maker’s future four-door coupe, but do these allegedly leaked images show us the real deal?
Published by Autoblog.nl, they easily convinced a lot of people, but we were very skeptical. They appear to have the form of patent images, but with way more details, shades and color (the tail lights, to be specific), than what we’re used to seeing.
And while there are some minor changes such as the front and rear bumper trimmings, the front grille, the door handles and the absence of the hood vents, the rest of the car pictured here is identical to the study, from the headlights to the deep, conceptual-style creases on the lower parts of the door. How often does that happen?
More importantly, if you take a closer look at the images, it seems like someone photoshoped the section right above the center of the left headlamp, the upper corner of the hood where the vents laid on the concept, and the bonnet cut next to the fender vent and wheel arch. Also, the rear quarter image of the car is lacking the mid-section belt-line.
All that said, we’re leaning towards a fake – a photoshoped version of the concept, to be precise. What do you think?
While we let you ponder about that, we’ll quickly remind you that the concept was built on VW’s modular MQB platform, featuring a 380PS (374hp) plug-in-hybrid powertrain. It also measured 4,869mm (191.7 inches) in length, 1,407mm (55.4 inches) in height, and 1,864mm (73.4 inches) in width, which give us an idea about the production variant’s dimensions.
Considering it will share its architecture with the latest Passat (B8), the new CC will be offered with the same engines (more or less), so expect a hybrid powertrain similar to the GTE’s among other choices. The new CC isn’t expected at the Paris Motor Show next month, but at next year’s Geneva show.
