A 6 month-old boy has been found dead in an SUV after being left in the car all day in the searing heat of Texas, becoming the last in a string of similar incidents.
Worryingly, at least 27 young children have died in hot cars in the United States this year alone, almost double the total number of infant fatalities recorded throughout 2015.
Speaking to authorities, the father of the latest baby to have died said that he forgot to drop his child off at day care and arrived at work at 6:15 am on Friday. After finishing work and returning to his car at 3 pm, he discovered his young child had died.
Throughout much of the day, the temperature is said to have hovered around 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.7 Celsius), meaning the interior of the car could have easily eclipsed 150 ℉ (65°C), leaving the six month-old with no chance of survival.
Yahoo reports that The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has discovered that the number of children dying from heat stroke in vehicles has risen since the introduction of passenger side airbags. Due to this safety advancement, parents no longer buckle their children into the front seat, instead strapping them into the back seats, making them easier to forget about.
