Enthusiasts looking to take part in the AMG Winter Sporting experience used to have to fly out to Sweden. But now Mercedes is bringing the program to North America with the addition of a parallel location in Canada.
The program is setting up camp in Gimli, Manitoba, carving a makeshift track on the frozen surface of Lake Winnipeg with corners borrowed from other great North American circuits – including Mosport and Mont-Tremblant (both former homes of the Canadian Grand Prix) as well as Laguna Seca.
“We are thrilled Mercedes-Benz has chosen Gimli for its winter home and I can assure them that they won’t be disappointed with our hospitality,” said the town’s deputy mayor Peter Peiluck. “We look forward to being able to showcase our community to our new guests. It will be an exciting five weeks around town, I’m sure.”
Two programs will be offered throughout February: the three-day AMG Winter Sporting Advanced program and the four-day Advanced Plus version. Both are being set up jointly by the AMG Driving Academy in Affalterbach, Germany, and by Mercedes-Benz Canada‘s longtime partner Driving Unlimited.
No word on just which vehicles will take part, but you can expect a combination of rear- and all-wheel drive models. And we can’t think of any AMGs we’d be disappointed to drift around endlessly in the snow and ice.
