The family of late actor Anton Yelchin have sued Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for negligence and product liability for the star’s June 19 death.
Six weeks ago, the Star Trek actor was crushed against a brick wall and fence after his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled backwards on his steep driveway and careened into him.
At the time of the incident, the car was under a recall for a confusing electronic gear selector which could cause the vehicles to roll away after the driver exited.
Yelchin was the first known casualty of the fault which has already been linked to 68 cases of injury, 266 crashes and 308 reports of property damage. In total, 811,000 vehicles in the United States are affected by the recall while almost 300,000 in international markets were also called back to dealerships.
Further details about the lawsuit haven’t been released but in the coming months, we expect to here more and will update you when we do.
