Apple’s ongoing road car development programme is still an enigma. Despite being in the works for years, no leaks have come from inside the company and very few details about the project are actually known.
Most recently, we heard that Apple was shifting focus from actually building its own car to developing the world’s most advanced autonomous driving system instead.
Now, Yahoo reports they will introduce a new type of battery with an unnamed South Korean company.
The Korean firm, which has allegedly signed a non-disclosure agreement with Apple, has developed a battery that is hollow in the center. This design means the batteries can maintain a low temperature the help of any separate cooling devices. The hollow design also means that the batteries themselves will be lighter, affording Apple the ability to install more into its electric car.
