It’s one of the craziest and most exclusive vehicles ever made and yet, Aston Martin’s track-only Vulcan is often overshadowed by those two other monsters, the McLaren P1 GTR and the Ferrari FXX K.
Developed by the same people that are spending their time preparing cars for endurance events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Vulcan is not only as menacing as it sounds, but also a pure engineering fiesta of a petrol-powered car.
Aston Martin’s people managed to create one of the most capable automobiles on the planet, one that tips the scales at just 1,350kg (2,976lbs) despite the fact that there is a massive 7.0-litre V12 engine mounted at the front.
And what an engine that is; maximum power is rated at 820hp at a screaming 7750rpm while peak torque is 575lb ft/6500rpm. A six-speed sequential transmission is tasked of sending the colossal power to the rear axle. Aston Martin reckons it’ll do 204 mph flat out with an estimated 0-60mph in 3.0 seconds.
Yes, we’ve seen more impressive numbers at times but to think like that would wildly unfair for the Vulcan. Just take a look at its insane aero agenda blending in with the spaceship design and you’ll get the idea.
It even features what Aston Martin calls Mach driving modes: Mach 1 gives you around 550hp to play with, Mach 2 raises the output to 675hp while Mach 3 unleashes the beast sitting in front of you to its full potential.
