If estimates are correct, it could sell for around $18 to $20 million. After being raced hard for many years since hitting U.S. shores in the 1960’s, the car has been a star attraction at numerous Concours events, including the Cavallino Classic in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2011, where it won the Platinum Award and Competizione Cup.
The Ferrari Classiche Certified car has a coachwork body from Scaglietti and placed 5th overall at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1960. Remarkably, it is one of just nine alloy-bodied LWB California Spiders ever manufactured.
Chassis 1603 GT was the very first example installed with disc brakes as standard and also came from the factory with a limited-slip different, a massive 136-liter fuel tank and a competition gearbox with ribbed aluminum casting for better cooling. Power comes from a V12 with Weber carburetors and a competition exhaust system from Abarth for an output between 275 and 280 hp in its heyday, about 50 hp more than a typical LWB California Spider.
