With the Bentayga already covering new ground for Bentley, it was just a matter of time until it made history again, this time as the luxury automaker’s first-ever diesel-powered car.

After our spies spotted this Bentayga testing in the UK, we checked with the registration office and found out that the SUV was powered by a 4.0-liter (3,956 cc) turbo-diesel engine.

This is actually the same twin-turbo V8 found in the Audi SQ7, where it delivers 435 PS and a whooping 900 Nm (663 lb-ft) of torque, helping Audi’s flagship SUV hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.8 seconds.

While it’s possible the engine might receive a small bump in power output under Bentley’s supervision, even as it stands, it remains a more competent unit than the 385 PS 4.2-liter TDI, which was previously rumored to end up in the Bentayga.

As for any visual changes, seen as how we’re just talking about a new engine here, the exterior of the car remains the same – with the exception of a slightly different exhaust design.

Of course, it’s hard to say if this car will make its way into the US, but given how strong the demand for diesel-powered SUV is in Europe, expect the Bentayga Diesel to become a very popular option over there.

We’re expecting its official debut to be at this year’s Paris Motor Show in October.
