The bespoke Ford ‘Ole Yeller’ Shelby GT350 Mustang raised $295,000 at auction during Wisconsin’s Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture.
This is the ninth consecutive year Ford has created a bespoke Mustang for the auction and as always, all the funds raised benefit the EAA’s various youth education programs.
The 2008 Mustang AV8R remains the most expensive car from Ford sold at the auction, bringing home $500,000 eight years ago.
For 2016, Ford took inspiration from one of the most recognizable P-51D Mustangs, which holds the prop plane record for being the fastest to travel the U.S. from coast to coast.
Some of the vehicle’s unique components include its wheels from Forgiato, ‘Ole Yeller’ accents and badging, a towering rear wing, numerous carbon fiber components and bright green lighting. Further modifications can be found in the interior including custom sill plates and floor mats, aviation inspired gauges and distinctive Recaro seats.
Mechanically, the ‘Ole Yellow’ is the same as any other Shelby GT350. That means it has a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V8 engine spitting out a ferocious 526 hp and 429 lb-ft (581 Nm) of torque.
Discussing the car, chief executive and chairman of the board of EAA, Jack Pelton said “We’re truly grateful Ford is, and has been, such a committed sponsor of EAA and AirVenture. With its ninth Mustang donation, Ford has definitely delivered something exceptional that any auto or aviation enthusiast would love to own. The Ford ‘Ole Yeller’ Mustang will allow EAA to provide support to our valuable programs helping us grow the next generation of aviators.”
