Eager to prove its track prowess, Mercedes-AMG is continuing to test the hardcore GT R at the famed Nurburgring and recently, was filmed with a potentially more track-focused variant of the range-topping model.

First revealed at June’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, the Mercedes-AMG GT R launched under the banner of the being the “Beast of the Green Hell”. Aptly, much of its development has been done there as the German firm aims to shake-up the market and offer its buyers the potential for even more speed.

Intriguingly, one of the test mules from this video appears to be even more focused than the ‘standard‘ model. Most significantly, it can be seen sporting a set of additional canards on the front bumper, designed to add more downforce to the front end. Additionally, a, oval-shaped central-exiting exhaust is pictured.

These two upgrades probably mean one of two things. The first is that AMG is testing an even more hardcore version of the AMG GT R with some aerodynamic upgrades or alternatively, is evaluating components which may be offered as options on the GT R, such as those canards and a potential sports exhaust system.
