Ford fans have an opportunity to discover the brand new Ford GT race car like never before thanks to the launch of a virtual reality app for iOS and Android.
To create the app, Ford teamed up with virtual reality content creator Tool of North America and offers users a run-down of the GT’s famed Le Mans racing history and some thrilling racing action. What’s more, the application also includes exclusive footage from this year’s race at Circuit de la Sarthe where Ford claimed victory in the GTE class.
The 360-degree video can be viewed on YouTube for those without a virtual reality headset but to get the full experience, a VR set up is ideal, particularly when it comes to the thrilling onboard footage.
Discussing the application, director and founder from Tool of North America, Erich Joiner, said “As an auto and racing enthusiast, I was inspired by the opportunity and the challenge of helping the iconic Ford brand make its virtual reality debut. For the innovative Ford GT, I wanted to create something that gives people an exciting virtual reality experience beyond the traditional. I wanted to use the immersive technology not only to transport them to a new place, but to take them where only a special few from the Ford racing team typically go – inside the famed track at Le Mans.”
Next month, the application will be expanded to document Ken Block and his Ford Focus RS RX global rallycross car.
