Ford is working on a family of electrified models under the Model E label, according to a report from Automotive News.

The automaker famously blocked Tesla’s attempts to trademark ‘Model E’ for its entry-level model and is now actively working on bringing that badge to the market with a selection of all-electric vehicles, including a compact SUV.

It is reported that Ford’s strategy for the Model E will be similar to what Hyundai has done with the Ioniq, which is available as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and EV. However, the Model E family will also include a multitude of different body styles, appealing to different segments of the market.

It is thought that the staple of the Ford Model E family will be a sedan conceived to rival the Tesla Model 3. Tipped to launch in 2019, Ford chief executive Mark Fields has confirmed that the car will have a similar 200-mile range to its competitors even though it will launch approximately two years later.

Alongside the Model E, Ford has previously confirmed that it is developing 13 electrified models by 2020.
