A Tesla pickup truck is coming and if we’ve come to learn anything from the firm, expect it to be revolutionary and immensely, immensely popular. Of course, it will have to look good and if this rendering from TopSpeed is anything to go by, it will be just that.
It remains to be seen what existing Tesla model the company’s pickup will be based on but logically, it’ll be the Model X, just like the Tesla Minibus. That means it should retain the same wheelbase and possibly a very similar interior, albeit without a third row of seats.
Making the Tesla pickup immediately noticeable will be its front end, baring obvious similarities to other Tesla models. That means there won’t be a grille, not even a faux one, and instead the fascia will be dominated by a large Tesla logo. While the absence of a grille on a vehicle this size does look somewhat strange, it could be just the first of many if the market does become dominated by electric powertrains as many predict.
Obviously, the falcon doors of the Model X will be nowhere to seen, making way for more rugged and reliable traditional doors. A set of enlarged wing mirrors are also expected as is a similarly sized windshield to the massive one from the Model X.
It’s impossible to say just how much cargo space the bed of the Tesla pickup will have but if Elon Musk wants it to compete with established alternatives, expect more than enough room for your tools, dirt bikes and anything else.
Arguably the key attraction of the vehicle will be its electric drivetrain. Considering the huge amounts of torque electric cars deliver from zero rpm, the pickup should prove exceptional for towing.
