Jaguar Land Rover has become the latest automaker to call back thousands of vehicles fitted with defective Takata airbags.
In total, Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 108,000 vehicles, consisting of 2009-2011 Jaguar XFs and 2007-2011 Range Rover models. Given the large number of affected cars and a short supply of parts, the recall will be split into four phases.
The first phase will include 54,000 of the affected vehicles being recalled in areas of high heat and humidity. This is because the propellant in the airbags is more likely to degrade in such climates. Areas included in this first stage are Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Alabama, Florida, Hawaii, California, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, South Carolina and Puerto Rico.
As more replacement parts become available the other phases of the recall will commence, beginning with the next most vulnerable areas.
