Japanese designer Ken Okuyama has revealed his plan to unveil a new car every year as he looks to grow the automotive arm of his design business.

The man best known for penning the Ferrari Enzo, Maserati Quattroporte and the brand new Kode57 supercar, revealed the news during an interview with Autoblog about the future of car design and his business.

When quizzed about the firm’s low production volume business model, Okuyama said “Actually our plan, and we’re already doing, is to come back every year pretty much to this Concorso Italiano, The Quail, or here in Monterey with a new car.

“We already have a new project started with a new client who has paid. We are working on that project. We’ll hopefully finish before next year, this event, and bring it over here. That’s the plan,” the designer said.

Okuyama said that because of his experience having worked at Pininfarina for 12 years, as well as current digital technologies, the company is able to come up with a new product every year.

Beyond a range of automotive project, Okuyama’s design studio also designs Japanese bullet trains, eyewear, motorcycles, helps with city planning and even consults on airplane design.
