No supercar is universally lusted over more than the McLaren F1, particularly the GTR racing variants from the famous 1995 25 Hours of Le Mans.
As it turns out, one of those five examples is owned privately, has been converted to road use and was recently joined by a matching McLaren P1 XP at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
The F1 GTR in question was driven by Fabien Giroix, Jean-Denis Délétraz and Olivier Grouillard at Le Mans in 1995, bathed in a Jacardi sponsorship livery. After the race, it was purchased privately (probably for an unholy sum) and sent back to the factory to be converted into a street car.
Mechanically, nothing was changed. All that was modified were a few subtle tweaks to make it pass road regulations and a brand new orange paint scheme. While it looks identical to the McLaren F1 LM, it isn’t one, arguably making it even more special.
The current owner acquired it in 2000 and when the P1 was announced, thought it’d be a good idea to have a matching one built. Given how quickly the P1 sold out, the British firm offered him a P1 XP (experimental prototype) and painted it in the exactly same shade as his F1 GTR.
Interestingly, it is thought that McLaren sold about 15 prototype P1s to customers, meaning that there are in fact 390 P1s on the roads today, rather than the official word of 375.
