With a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine capable of butchering tires thanks to an output of 650 horses, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the spitting embodiment of a muscle car.

Available with a 10-speed automatic transmission, the new ZL1 is promising to be capable of truly brutal acceleration times and the company has also ensured that when installed with the standard six-speed ‘box, the car is as brisk off the line as the finest cars to ever leave a U.S factory.

While speaking at a public event about the latest ZL1 recently, lead engineer Al Oppenheiser revealed that the car can reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in first gear, meaning we can expect to see some pretty serious performance specs when the first reviews of the car start appearing.

The previous-generation Camaro ZL1 could hit 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds with the manual ‘box and it ‘only’ had 580 hp and had to lug around 220 pounds (100 kg) more than the new model.

Ultimately, we could see the new ZL1 hitting 60 clicks in the mid-3 second range with a manual shifter, a truly mind-blowing figure.
