This is the upcoming E-Class All Terrain model undertaking some final testing right before its public debut at the Paris Motor Show.
The new E-Class family is about to launch a proper product offensive to its rivals by offering an even wider range that will even cover a corner usually taken by the Audi A6 Allroad and the Volvo XC70 (to be followed by the V90 Cross Country).
The recipe to turn a humble big estate into a pseudo-offroader is tried and tested, with Mercedes set to add a pair of more rugged-looking bumpers, wider fenders and a higher ride to the E-Class Estate.
All models will be offered with the brand’s permanent 4Matic all-wheel drive as you would expect, with Mercedes also throwing in an adaptive air suspension as standard, a feature that’s offered in the Audi A6 Allroad.
The engine range will mirror that of the regular model’s, meaning a wide selection between four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, all of them paired to a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
The jacked-up version of the E-Class is not the only new member we expect from Mercedes as the Germans are also working on a two-door Coupe version too.
