Who knows if this ‘save’ was the work of Porsche’s Stability Management system, the driver’s reflexes or a combination of the two, but the moral of the story is to avoid getting onto the grass.
We’ve seen plenty of other drivers who weren’t as lucky hitting the wall or worse, after losing control of their cars. So having the car’s electronic brain keep you in check is a good thing, especially if you’re unsure about your ability to handle a sports car at its limits.
Whatever the driver did after he got back on track in this instance was clearly the right thing to do, since the 911 gripped the asphalt immediately and carried on its way.
As for his error, why he chose to go as wide as he did when trying to pass that Renault Megane RS is beyond us. Perhaps he just lost focus for a split second, but speculating at this point is of very little use.
