The first teaser image of the brand new 2016 Proton Persona has dropped online, giving us a chance to see the Asia-exclusive model for the first time.
Based around the existing Proton Iriz, the new Persona isn’t expected to be offered worldwide like the previous-gen model, which reached the shores of Britain and Australia, among others. Nevertheless, the Malaysian company has still worked to ensure it is a fitting successor with an updated design.
From the teaser, the revised front fascia is in full view and looks dramatically different to the old car. A large lower grille is perhaps the stand out feature with lines that stretch out towards the bottom corners of the front bumper. Within the new bumper are different fog light clusters while the upper half of the front includes the unmistakable Proton badge, a thin horizontal grille and a set of simple yet stylish headlights.
When the new Persona launches, it is expected to be offered with 1.3-liter and 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engines. The entry-level model of that pair will have 94 hp at 5,750 rpm and 120 Nm (88 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm while the punchier 1.6-liter provides 107 hp and 150 Nm (110 lb-ft).
Regional prices have yet to be released but deliveries will commence early 2017.
