The owner of this 1966 VW Beetle decided he had enough with the puny air-cooled boxer, installing instead a rotary motor from a 1990 Mazda RX-7.

Engine swaps are not really that uncommon with the classic Beetles but usually owners prefer their cars to remain boxer-powered and that makes this Bug even cooler.

Combined with the fairly stock exterior, this Beetle has awesome written all over it after its happy owner investing tons of personal time and love into the build. It’s not his first Beetle but this just shows his huge appreciation to one of the most historic vehicles of the past century.

With an estimated power output between 250hp to 280hp, this is a seriously fast Bug too; the turbocharged Wankel engine allows it to run the quarter mile in 10.50 seconds so it’s not a car you want sitting next to you on the stop lights.

Everyone loves Beetles but when you see a proper sorted modified example like this one, you can help but smile and nod in approval.
