Skoda has reported a slight increase in global sales for the month of July despite deliveries actually falling in select markets.
Throughout July this year, the firm managed to delivery a total of 83,700 vehicles to customers worldwide, a small 1 per cent jump over the 82,800 vehicles sold in the same time period in 2015. Most importantly however, sales in China rose by a significant 16.1 per cent and also swelled by 11.6 per cent in Russia.
In China, Skoda sold 18,400 vehicles in July 2015 but last month, shifted 21,400 vehicles. Russian sales meanwhile shot up from 4,200 vehicles to 4,700. Other countries which enjoyed higher-than-average Skoda sales were Turkey, Israel, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia.
Strangely Skoda’s overall sales and delivery increases came despite a slowdown in both Western Europe and Central Europe. In the west, sales fell by 8.7 per cent to 32,700, a decrease Skoda says it expected because of a three-week factory holiday at its Czech plants from July 4 to July 22. This also caused Central European deliveries to fall by 4.2 per cent to 13,900 units.
With the impending launch of the eagerly-anticipated Skoda Kodiaq on September 1, the firm is hoping to boost sales further.
