You really didn’t expect the open-top version of the Ferrari 488 to be anything short of spectacular, did you?
The new 488 Spider takes everything that makes the regular 488 great, from the insanely powerful twin-turbo 660hp V8 to the genius engineering involved in its chassis and adds the drama of a folding hard-top that allows for a much more intense experience behind its wheel.
The weight penalty over the coupe is only 50kg, with Ferrari claiming the same torsional rigidity with its fixed-roof brother. This allowed them to use the same suspension setup with the GTB, and with the 0-62mph (0-100km/h) sprint dispatched in 3 seconds flat and the 0-124 mph (0-200km/h) in a breathtaking 8.7 seconds, it’s warp-speed fast.
Do all of the above mean it’s perfect? Auto Express got their hands on a right-hand drive example and deliver their verdict.
