As Elon Musk made no mention of Tesla building a hypercar in the future in his second Master Plan, any hopes you may have had can be laid to rest. But once Tesla’s second business plan is completed, will Musk be of the same opinion?
Having owned a McLaren F1 and pioneered fast and enjoyable electric cars, the innovator certainly has an interest in quick cars and if, as many suggest, the supercar industry becomes all-electric in the coming decade, perhaps he’d like to create a range-topping hypercar. Of course, this is all far-fetched speculation but thanks to Yasid Design, we do have an idea of how such a model could look.
Dubbed the Tesla Model R (sounds aggressive right?), the car combines a number of characteristic Tesla design elements with an elegant front-‘engined’ supercar body. What this means is that there’s the firm’s faux black front grille as well as headlights and taillights reminiscent of those from the Model S, albeit customized to incorporate sharp edges.
Because of the industry’s current fascination with electric power, it seems probable that high-performance cars will go down the electric route, potentially including the next generation of hypercars from Porsche, McLaren and Ferrari. When combined with newcomers such as Rimac, Tesla would certainly be a welcome addition to the field.
