Mercedes offers no shortage of models in America, but there are still more that never make it across the Atlantic. Like the B-Class for example.
Benz’s little minivan is offered in a range of specifications overseas to take on the likes of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and Golf Sportsvan overseas. But in the United States, it’s only offered as an electric vehicle, dubbed the B250e.
The example spotted in Elmhurst, Illinois, by our reader Andrew T. might be mistaken in passing for the battery-powered version, but a number of telltale signs tell us otherwise – not the least of which is the notable absence of the letter E from the B250 nameplate.
It has five-spoke alloys, to start with, instead of the low-drag, slotted wheels on the EV. It also has a pair of tailpipes protruding from underneath the rear bumper. And the front bumper bears a different design. Mercedes also doesn’t offer the B250e in that shade of white in America, but we think you get the point by now.
Does its presence mean that MBUSA is thinking about importing the conventional B-Class to America? Probably not, considering the territory is pretty well covered by the GLA. But it does offer the internal-combustion B250 (with front- or all-wheel drive) across the border in Canada.
Thanks to Andrew for the pictures!
