As Merc’s engineers are getting ready to call it a day when it comes to the development of the all-new E-Class Cabrio, another prototype has been caught in the wild.

Dropping some of its plastic cladding and maintaining a minimal camouflage on its reshaped exterior, which mimics the lines of the Sedan and Coupe as well as the open-top variants of the C- and S-Class.

The chassis will be reinforced in order to cope with the chopped roof, and this means that more kilos added to its overall weight, which will make it a tad slower over the coupe, it too in development. The usual features, which include the AirCap anti-draught system, will make their way inside, where the rear bench that can accommodate up to three passengers in the four-door and five-door variants will be swapped for two individual seats.

The engine lineup will include a range of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel burners, but it remains unknown whether Mercedes-AMG will grace the latest E-Class Cabrio with the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Whatever the case may be, enthusiasts will have to wait until next year to find out more about the drop-top, which could at either the 2017 NAIAS or 2017 Geneva Show.
