BMW has never created an estate M3, and yet here’s an E30 with the familiar bloated bodywork and a genuine Motorsport engine under the hood.
As expect, the car isn’tcall stock, using a plethora of different parts to wreak havoc on its rear tires. The man selling it on Craigslist for $65,000 says it’s from his private collection, it’s well looked after, and it has an S54 engine under the hood, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.
The straight-six engine was borrowed from an e46 M3, and it develops 338 hp and 365 Nm (269 lb-ft) of torque, hitting the rpm limiter at 8000 revs. Visually, it comes with E30 M3 steel fenders and rear quarter panels.
In order to cope with the extra power, the car was fitted with larger brakes, a complete E30 M3 suspension at the front, and a 2002 Z3 M Roadster sub-frame and brakes at the rear. The result is described as a car that can spin tires, and it’s really fun to drive on dry roads.
On a serious note, though, the owner leaves a casual “beware” at the end of the ad. So, it’s clear that there’s nothing to worry about when it comes to handling this beast; moreover, it’s an estate, so it’s practical (that’s what you should tell your wife). The owners even says his kids grew up riding in it, although it wasn’t modified at that time.
