Just a couple of days after it was revealed that Bridgestone is developing a new set of tires for the iconic Jaguar XJ220, it’s been announced that Pirelli is doing exactly the same.
The new set of Pirelli P Zeros for the former world’s fastest production car are being developed in collaboration with Jaguar Classic and will allow fortunate XJ220 owners to fully exploit their vehicle’s performance on a fresh set of rubber.
Jaguar says that the P Zero tires will be bespoke to the XJ220 and combine the original classic looks of period-correct P Zero tires with modern technologies. As such, the internal structure of each tire will be custom made to suit the driving characteristics of the XJ220 and to deliver the best balance between grip, durability and wet weather performance thanks to the asymmetric tread pattern.
According to director of Jaguar Land Rover classic Tim Hannig, “The Jaguar XJ220 was an instant classic. It is a revered car in the history of Jaguar, and our business is now undertaking various restoration projects for XJ220 customers. This new tire permits the full performance of the glorious XJ220 to be exploited where appropriate.”
