To the unobservant, the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider and BMW M2 are nothing alike.

One is a stripped-down, two-seater sports car with a carbon fiber chassis, no power steering and a highly-strung 1.75-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The other is a four-seater, has a turbo’d six-cylinder, is much heavier and has a host of creature comforts and luxuries its Italian counterpart does without.

While they are different in these regards, they are similarly priced in the mid $50,000 range and according to their respective firms, offer some of the best driving thrills of any cars on the market. With this in mind, CNET’s  Roadshow recently pitted the two against each other to see how they both achieve this goal in dramatically different ways.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out which of the two is the most practical and suitable for daily use. The M2. It’s also not hard to guess which offers the rawest and most pure driving experience. The 4C.

But which is best? Watch the video after the jump to find out.
