It has emerged that the upcoming Alpine sports car will be priced similarly to the Alfa Romeo 4C when it launches next year.

During discussions with Motoring, the managing director of Renault Australia Justin Hocevar revealed that locally, the model would cost between $75,000 and $90,000 AUD. That translates to between $57,000 and $68,000 in the United States.

Of course, simply converting the Australian price to U.S. based on current exchange rates doesn’t result in a completely accurate figure due to the different taxes between the countries and other factors. Nevertheless, it gives us an idea that the Alpine will cost about the same as the Alfa Romeo 4C and Porsche 718 Cayman which start at $55,900 and $53,650 in the United States respectively.

When the new Alpine launches, it is expected to be dubbed the A120 and will by powered by a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine based around the 1.6-liter unit of the Renault Clio RS. This powertrain is expected to deliver around 250 hp.

Further down the line, a hardcore model could hit the market with up to 300 hp. A convertible version may also follow.
