Apple’s ongoing ‘Project Titan’ has hit a road block, as the technology giant rethinks its autonomous driving technology.
The New York Times has revealed that recently, Apple laid off dozens of workers from its car initiative. Although an exact cause of these sackings isn’t known, it’s claimed that they were part of a “reboot” of the car project.
For the better part of the last two years, Apple has been secretly developing and designing its very own vehicle, but in recent times, shifted focus to autonomous technologies which could reach the market before a car produced in-house by Apple.
Even though the company has a selection of autonomous vehicles in the midst of testing, the project has been far from plain sailing. The once rapidly-growing project which grew to 1,000 employees in just 18 months, saw its chief leave Apple earlier in the year. Insiders also claim that there’s been internal concerns about how the firm can bring something new to the automotive industry.
Despite all of this, Apple remains silent on the entire project leaving us all to wonder what is happening behind closed doors.
