Welcoming hundreds of collectors and enthusiasts at Blenheim Palace for the Salon Prive 2016 Sale, Silverstone Auctions managed to hammer away more than £3.4 million ($4.5 million) worth of classic cars.
Out of these, one particular Jaguar E-Type stands out, a 1973-made Series III Roadster, which is known as “Boycie’s E-Type”, after starring in the episode titled “Go West Young Man” of the BBC sitcom “Only Fools & Horses”. The classic Jag changed hands for a hefty sum – £115,875 ($154,001), which represents more than £40,000 ($53,160) over its lower estimate.
Another expensive Jaguar that was auctioned off was a 1959 XK150 3.4 S Drophead Coupe, which fetched £189,000 ($251,187), while a 1959 XK150 3.8 S Fixedhead Coupe went for £90,000 ($119,613) and a 1964 MKII 3.4 Auto was sold for £20,250 ($26,913).
The auction house’s second-ever Porsche-only sale gathered up a 1988 911 (930) Turbo (sold for £171,000/$227,264), a 1963 356B TG Super 90 (£146,250/$194,371) and a 2011 911 GT3 RS 4.0 (£208,125/$276,604), among others.
Other vehicles that managed to find new homes for hefty sums include a 1968 Shelby GT500 (£142,875/$189,885), a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II with just 885 miles (1,424 km) from new (£202,500/$269,129), a 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe (£127,125/$168,953), a 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL60 AMG (£56,250/$74,758) and a 1990 BMW E30 M3 Convertible (£59,625/$79,243).
“I’m delighted with the results we’ve achieved on behalf of our vendors. It’s always great to see both happy sellers and buyers at an auction and we’ve certainly seen that this weekend“, said Silverstone Auctions’ Managing Director, Nick Whale.
