According to reports, production of the Chevrolet Silverado could extend to the company’s Oshawa Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada.

Currently, General Motors builds the Silverado at its Fort Wayne Assembly Plant in Indiana and at its Silao, Mexico facility. However, it may move some production to Oshawa after striking a four-year agreement with the Canadian auto union, a source tells The Detroit News.

GM has announced that it will spend about $400 million CAD to upgrade the Oshawa plant which currently produces the Chevrolet Impala, Buick Regal and Cadillac XTS. With the massive investment, the plant will now be able to build both cars and trucks but GM is remaining tight-lipped as to which of its pickups will be built there.

If production of the Silverado does indeed expand to Oshawa, it wouldn’t be the first time the plant has built the vehicle. As a matter of fact, it used to help handle Silverado and GMC Sierra production in a seperate truck plant before the global financial crises.

As the current Silverado is expected to be replaced by a new-generation model in late 2018 or early 2019, it’s likely that the Oshawa facility would immediately jump into production of that car rather than the outgoing model.
