As the world continues to lose its mind over talk of an F1-powered hybrid hypercar from Mercedes-AMG, new reports have surfaced claiming that Lotus could have some input in the car.
According to Autocar, a source close to the project has suggested that the British marque has been hired to help setup the hypercar’s chassis. It is claimed that Lotus has been selected to work on the project after lending its services to the chassis development of another high-performance model from Mercedes-Benz.
While Lotus has yet to respond to the claims, its expertise in chassis tuning would certainly make it the ideal company to help bring Mercedes-AMG’s ambitious project to the street.
Beyond its chassis, the real headline for the car will be its engine. Said to be derived from the 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 of the current Mercedes-AMG W07 Formula One car, the Mercedes hypercar could deliver as much as 1,500 hp and serve as the direct rival to the Aston Martin AM-RB 001 being co-developed by F1 rival Red Bull Racing.
